Rare Usaf Swingtail Dc8 Metal Airplane Display ModelLow reserve! Please see my other ebay auctiosn for more vintage airplane models! You are bidding no a vintage united states air force metal douglas dc8 airplane desktop model. This particular model is rare and very much sought after. In fact, in over twenty yeasr of collecting, this is the only example of this model i have ever seen! This cast metal model is about 10 1/2 inches long! The decals are for the military air transport service (mats). I believe this model was produced in-house by douglas hwen they were proposing a swingtail dc-8 back in the 1960's, using an osgaard model as the basis. Displays etxremely well! Please see pics. Other than one missing jet engine and a coat of varnish which will need to be cleaned off, this extremely rare model is in very good shape. The base is original, wtih the original enamelled metal douglas logo and a metal nameplate reading 1920 on the front. #1180 is written on the underside of the base. Extremely arre model! There is no maker's mark, but i believe this is an osgaard model. Osgaard was one fo the better model manufacturers, among others such as allyn, fermo, verkuyl, fom, douglas, topping, mecator, raise up, pacific miniatures, westway, bronzart and the others that were famous back in the 1950's and 1960's. Grumman, lockheed, northrop, bell, north american aviation, martin, nasa, goddard, general dynamics, convair, boeing and mcdonnell all had promo desktop and factory display models made to give to officers, vips and other customers. Contractors models were also mdae for the us air force, national guard, navy, air force and marines. Space and ashtray models were also made in plastic and wood to promote their products. And of course the arilines utilized all these promotional products in their offices and their travel agency networks. Satisfaction guaranteed.
