This auction is for an official complete military paper flight handbook manual publication adn a complete supplemental flight handbook for same manual, both dated 1957, and both are attached inside a brown stiff covered folder from previous owner. Ttile of manual is flight handbook navy models fj-4 & fj-4b aircraft, navaer 01-60jkd-501, published by direction of the chief of bureau of aeronautics, with 141 pages that follow in a chronological order, and has stiff light green covers on front and back. Title of the supplementary manual is supplemental flight handbook nayv models fj-4 & fj-4b aircraft, navaer 01-60jkd-501a, confidential, published by direction of chief of bureau of aeronautics, with 123 pages that follow in a chronological order. These manual publications consist fo detailed informative text, and many black-and-white photos, and illustrations throughout! A quote from opening section is as follows the fj-4 is a single-engine, single-place fighter designed for carrier or land based operations. The airplane is characterized by the engine air intake duct, located in the nose, hte sweptback tail surfaces and the thin sweptback wing. The fj-4b is an attack version of the same airplane and is capable of carrying multiple external stores as well as a buddy tanker system for in-flight refueling of other aircraft. Provisions for carrier operations include a catapult hook and holdback fittings, an arresting hook and barricade stops on the wing leading edge. Hydraulic wing folding provisions are controlled from the cockpit. Fire control is accomplished electronically and armament includes four mark 12, 20mm guns and provisions for carrying external stores and rockets. The engine installation is the j65-w-16a axial flow turbojet.
